Five Myths about Lifestyle Newborn Photo Sessions

Bringing home a new baby is a momentous occasion, one that should be celebrated and remembered. Hiring a professional photographer is a great way to capture this special time for your family. But inviting someone into your home may seem overwhelming, especially in those early days. I'm here to tell you that the process can actually be quite easy! Here are 5 myths when it comes to lifestyle newborn photo sessions...

MYTH #1 - MY HOUSE ISN'T CLEAN ENOUGH

The last thing you want to think about after bringing home baby is getting your house sparkling clean and tidy. Guess what? It doesn't have to be!! When I arrive I'll take a quick tour to scope out the locations with the best light. Common spots are the master bedroom, living room and nursery. Once we have the areas picked out I can quickly assess what might be distracting and help move those items to a closet or another room.

MYTH #2 - MY HOUSE DOESN'T GET GOOD LIGHT

Some homes will gets lots of natural light coming through, but if yours is not one of them it's okay. I'll work to find the spots with the best lighting. We can still get lots of great photos  sticking to just one or two locations.

MYTH #3 - I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR

If going out and getting a new outfit makes you feel good then by all means go for it, but most likely you already have something photo worthy in your closet. Don't overthink it - keep it simple, comfortable and classic. A pair of maternity jeans and a solid top is perfect.

MYTH #4 - MY OTHER KIDS WON'T SIT FOR PICTURES

Okay, so this one may be true because if there's one thing I've learned as a mom it's that there's no predicting what little kids (especially toddlers) are willing to do! Rest assured that I have dealt with lots of little ones and have some tricks up my sleeve. Prior to our session I ask that you fill out a quick questionnaire that includes some info on your child(ren)'s personality and likes/dislikes that will help me in connecting and engaging with them. I bring a calm and patient vibe and am totally flexible with accommodating kids' needs.

MYTH #5 - I MISSED THE 2 WEEK WINDOW AND MY BABY IS TOO OLD FOR NEWBORN PHOTOS

You may have heard that newborn photos have to be done in the first 14 days. That's generally the guideline for posed newborn photos since they are more easily able to be molded into position while remaining asleep. However that's not the case for lifestyle photos. These are more relaxed, natural sessions without props or special positioning. Lifestyle sessions can happen any time in the first 3 months.
